Description
This virtual support group is for adult women in Texas who are healing from faith-based or religious wounds and looking for a safe place to process their experiences. This group may be a good fit if you are struggling with shame, perfectionism, people-pleasing, fear, or confusion about your identity and beliefs after harmful religious experiences. Many participants come feeling isolated or unsure how to talk about what they have been through. This circle offers a compassionate, nonjudgmental space where your story is respected and you are free to explore your healing at your own pace.
Group sessions provide a gentle and structured environment that blends supportive conversation with guided reflection. Together we explore themes such as reclaiming your voice and autonomy, untangling shame, rebuilding trust in your body and emotions, and developing self-compassion and healthy boundaries. Sessions may include opportunities for discussion, grounding exercises, and reflective practices that help you connect with yourself and others in a meaningful way. Members are encouraged to share as they feel comfortable, and listening and witnessing are valued just as much as speaking.
Participants are asked to complete a brief consultation before joining to help ensure the group is a good fit and that everyone can feel safe and supported. Members should be open to respectful dialogue and committed to maintaining confidentiality within the group. This circle is facilitated by a trauma-informed therapist with specialized training in religious trauma, relational trauma, and expressive approaches to healing. My work is informed not only by professional training but also by a deep understanding of the courage it takes to question harmful beliefs, trust your own voice, and move toward a more authentic life.
Group Therapist
Kimmy Fourney is a holistic therapist who specializes in working with teens and adults navigating religious/relational trauma and anxious attachment. Clients often come to her to explore patterns of people pleasing, perfectionism, shame, and self-doubt, as well as to slow down, listen to their inner experience, and learn how to honor their needs. Many of her clients are highly capable and skilled at holding everything together on the outside, yet feel exhausted, burned out, and isolated on the inside.
Kimmy offers a warm, genuine, and nonjudgmental space through a compassionate, whole-body approach that honors your story. Her work is rooted in curiosity, openness, and deep respect for your lived experience, with a foundation in the body and nervous system to support you in feeling grounded, more in control, and able to trust your internal experience again. She believes that every part of you, including the parts you may question or struggle to understand, deserves to be seen, acknowledged, and valued.
Kimmy approaches therapy with a commitment to growth, curiosity, and nervous system–informed care. She supports clients in developing boundaries that respect their capacity while gently reconnecting with parts of themselves that feel most true, steady, and grounded. Kimmy supports clients in exploring patterns and relationships that are ready to shift, and in making those changes with care and intention. She helps clients expand their capacity to tolerate uncomfortable and distressing experiences, so they can move through challenges with greater steadiness, self-trust, and resilience. Kimmy has advanced training in EMDR and somatic trauma treatment. She is a board certified art therapist and integrates talk therapy, art therapy, and body-based approaches depending on each client’s needs and preferences.
Kimmy offers virtual therapy sessions in Maryland and Texas and is available Monday through Thursday by appointment.
