Practice Information

If you have spent more time today thinking about food than about anything else, you are not alone, and you do not have to feel sick enough, bad enough, or certain enough to deserve support.

Thrope Therapy is a boutique eating disorder practice in New York City, founded by Lily Thrope, LCSW, a licensed clinical social worker and Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor. Lily started the practice because she saw how many people were struggling with their relationship with food and their bodies in silence, waiting to feel sick enough, or bad enough, or sure enough to finally ask for help.

In addition to one-on-one therapy, we run Recovery Supper Club, an in-person dinner gathering for people in eating disorder recovery, because some of the most important healing happens outside the therapy room at the table in a restaurant in NYC with people who understand. This is a supportive space to try new foods, practice taking up space and make friends.

Our team of specialized clinicians works with teens and adults navigating eating disorders, disordered eating, and body image concerns. We treat anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder, ARFID, orthorexia, and chronic dieting, alongside the anxiety, depression, and shame that so often exist alongside them.

We practice from a weight-inclusive, HAES-aligned, and LGBTQ+ affirming framework. That means we never treat your body as the problem. We help you understand your unique relationship with food and work together to find safety in your relationship with yourself.

Sessions are available in person at our Midtown Manhattan office, located at 353 Lexington Avenue near Grand Central, and virtually across New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts and New Jersey. Sessions are 45 to 55 minutes.

FAQS

What services does your practice offer?

If you are uncertain of what kind of support you need, we are here to help you navigate that. We offer a free initial consultation call where can speak to a provider on our team, before committing to work together. This call is a great opportunity for a vibe check. We want this process to feel seamless.

We provide individual therapy for teens and adults, couples therapy, and family therapy, all with a specialization in eating disorders and body image. Sessions are available in person at 353 Lexington Avenue in Midtown Manhattan, near Grand Central, and virtually across New York and New Jersey. Sessions run 45 to 55 minutes and we offer email support throughout the week.

We also run Recovery Supper Club, an in-person dinner gathering designed specifically for people in eating disorder recovery, because we know there is a need for creative healing outside of therapy.

What are your practice's specialties?

If you are tired of being at war with your body we are here to help. Our areas of focus include anorexia, bulimia, binge eating disorder, ARFID, orthorexia, chronic dieting, and body image therapy, all approached through a weight-inclusive, anti-diet, and HAES-aligned lens.

We also specialize in the anxiety, depression, and trauma that so often underlie disordered eating, as well as LGBTQ+ affirming care and teen therapy. Many of our clients have spent years being handed diet advice by well-meaning doctors, family members, or wellness culture, and come to us ready for something completely different.

If something in your relationship with food or your body feels off, that is enough of a reason to talk to us. You do not have to wait until things feel unmanageable to get support. You deserve support now!

Why should I choose your practice?

When you come to Thrope Therapy LCSW PLLC, you will not have to spend your first session explaining what ARFID or binge eating is, or justifying why you are struggling, even though you do not look sick. You will not have to convince your therapist that what you are experiencing is real.

The relational approach that our therapists use makes you feel comfortable and safe to talk about some of the deepest fears you have around body image. We often hear that our clients "hate their bodies," this is something we are confident we can help you navigate through both skills and safety.

We are a small practice on purpose. We keep our caseloads manageable so that each client gets genuine attention and care. The therapeutic relationship is very important to us and we aim to find you the right fit on our team.

How does payment work at your practice?

We understand that cost is one of the real reasons people put off getting support, and we want to be straightforward about how it works at Thrope Therapy LCSW PLLC.

We are a private-pay practice. Session fees range from $175 to $250, depending on the clinician and service. We do not bill insurance directly, but we provide a superbill after every session, which is a detailed receipt you can submit to your insurance company for potential out-of-network reimbursement. Before your first session, we recommend calling your insurer and asking about your out-of-network mental health benefits. It takes about five minutes and can make a meaningful difference.

We also reserve a few spaces for reduced-fee sessions. Message us to learn more about this!
