Professional statement

Bao Chau Van is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker with over 20 years of clinical experience. She earned her Master’s degree in Clinical Social Work from Smith College. Her clinical training includes Psychodynamic Therapy, Internal Family Systems (IFS) Level II, EMDR, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction for Cognitive Therapy (MBSR-CT), and Couples Therapy through PACT Level II.

Bao Chau is certified in psychedelic-assisted therapies and research with CIIS program. She is currently offering Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) for individuals, couples, and groups, integrating IFS and EMDR to support and bring curiosity, compassion, and connection to the parts of self that may emerge during the healing journey.

With extensive experience across diverse settings—including school-based programs, inpatient hospitals, outpatient treatment centers, rehabilitation, and residential programs—Bao Chau approaches therapy with the belief that healing begins in mindful awareness and compassionate connection. She sees each person as a system of inner parts, each carrying stories, wisdom, and pain, and she helps clients develop a deeper relationship with their internal world to foster self-leadership, balance, and resilience.

Bao Chau’s work is also informed by her research on resilience and cultural adaptation. Her graduate thesis, “Lost and Found: Resilience Approaches that Helped the Vietnamese Residents of Biloxi, Mississippi in the Aftermath of Hurricane Katrina,” explored how communities rebuild after loss. She also co-authored “Everything Has Changed: Narratives of the Vietnamese American Community in Post-Katrina Mississippi.”

Bao Chau invites you to come in for a conversation—to slow down, connect inward, and explore the possibilities that await you. Through mindfulness and self-compassion, her hope is to help you rediscover clarity, connection, and the courage to move forward on your chosen life path.

Outside of her clinical work, Bao Chau enjoys gardening, kayaking, and experimenting with new recipes.

Message to clients

Welcome! I invite you to come in for a conversation—one centered on you, your story, and the many parts of you that are seeking understanding, healing, or simply space to be heard. Using the Internal Family Systems (IFS) model, we will gently explore the different parts of your inner world with curiosity and compassion, allowing each part to express its needs and wisdom at a pace that feels safe for you.

Alongside this, we will incorporate Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) practices to help you slow down, ground yourself, and reconnect with the present moment. Mindfulness offers a steady, supportive foundation for noticing your thoughts, emotions, and sensations without judgment, creating room for clarity and calm to emerge.

My hope is that through our work together, you will gain deeper self-understanding, greater internal harmony, and a clearer sense of direction—empowering you to move forward with confidence on the path that feels most authentic to you.

I look forward to the opportunity to support you and to walk with you through this meaningful process of reflection, healing, and growth.
