Dr. Broderick Sawyer is a licensed clinical psychologist, speaker, and author whose work helps clients move beyond symptom management and into deeper, identity-based healing. He integrates psychodynamic insight, mindfulness, self-compassion, Buddhist psychology, liberation psychology, and evidence-based behavioral interventions to help individuals, teens, and couples understand the underlying patterns shaping their lives.
His work is especially attuned to childhood trauma, attachment wounds, chronic shame, identity struggles, codependency, narcissistic abuse, and relational patterns that leave people feeling stuck, overextended, or disconnected from themselves. Rather than treating distress as random, Dr. Sawyer helps clients understand how anxiety, depression, burnout, overthinking, people-pleasing, emotional shutdown, or self-sacrifice often emerge from earlier environments and survival-based adaptations.
With over a decade of Buddhist practice and meditation training, Dr. Sawyer brings a grounded presence and deep observational lens to therapy. He also has niche expertise in racism-related stress, identity development, and the impact of broader cultural and systemic pressures on emotional life. His style is compassionate, direct, and practical, helping clients build awareness, emotional clarity, and meaningful change that extends beyond the therapy hour.
In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Sawyer provides continuing education to other therapists on liberation-informed and integrative therapy and has contributed to national conversations on mental health, including appearances on CNN. Whether in therapy, speaking events, or public dialogue, his aim is to support healing that helps people become more honest, self-connected, and liberated. Dr. Sawyer sees clients online in 39+ states.
