Professional statement

Dr. Broderick Sawyer is a licensed clinical psychologist, professor of psychology at Loyola University Chicago, and a therapist dedicated to helping clients heal, grow, and thrive. His work integrates evidence-based behavioral interventions with mindfulness and meditation, Buddhist psychology, and liberation psychology, offering a grounded and expansive approach to his work with individuals, teens, and couples.

With over a decade of training in Buddhist practice and meditation, Dr. Sawyer brings a deep presence and embodied awareness into his therapeutic style. He has several specialties and has niche expertise in working with racism-related stress, identity development, and systemic stressors. His approach is both compassionate and practical—drawing on cognitive-behavioral strategies, nervous system regulation, liberation psychology, and mindfulness to help clients cultivate resilience, clarity, and purpose.

In addition to his clinical work, Dr. Sawyer is an active contributor to the field of psychology. He provides continuing education to other therapists on liberation-informed and integrative therapy, helping clinicians expand their own capacity for culturally responsive and emotionally attuned care. His voice has been featured in national conversations on mental health, including appearances on CNN, where he has discussed the intersections of wellness, culture, and social context.

Whether in the therapy room, classroom, or public dialogue, Dr. Sawyer’s mission is to foster healing that goes beyond symptom relief—empowering individuals to connect with their values, transform stress into strength, and move through the world with greater freedom and wholeness.

Dr. Sawyer only sees clients online, in 39+ states.

Message to clients

Greetings- I work with clients who are ready to combine deep self-awareness with practical, solution-focused steps. You may be navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, identity concerns, or stress—and you’re seeking clarity: Who am I really, and how do I start living like it? You’re ready to stop spinning your wheels and begin healing at the root—building self-trust, mindfulness, and a life aligned with your core values rather than society’s expectations. I work with adults, teenagers, and couples to foster emotional clarity and support grounded, actionable change. I also provide culturally responsive diagnostic assessment.

I help people slow down, see clearly, and create meaningful change grounded in truth. By combining mindfulness, liberation psychology, and evidence-based behavioral approaches, we’ll build clarity, confidence, and control. With years of experience training other therapists and a decade-long Buddhist practice, I bring clinical depth and deep presence.

You deserve therapy that helps you change your life—not just manage symptoms. I support you in creating a life aligned with your truth so that relief and resilience follow. If you're ready to feel empowered and liberated, reach out by phone or email to get started.
