Charlene Collibee, PhD s a licensed Clinical Psychologist in Rhode Island with specialized training in supporting college and graduate students, couples, and parents. Life transitions, including attending college, navigating graduate school, raising children, or building strong partnerships, can be deeply rewarding but also overwhelming. Balancing multiple demands often collides with questions about identity, purpose, relationships, and expectations. Therapy provides a supportive space to make sense of these experiences, manage stress, and strengthen your connections with others.
Many of us carry the weight of past experiences whether from family, childhood, or previous relationships into their current lives without realizing it. Dr. Collibee helps clients understand and break these patterns using research-based approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Interpersonal Therapy (IPT), the Gottman Method, and Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT). These interventions are designed to reduce anxiety and depression, improve communication, and foster healthier, more fulfilling relationships. Research consistently shows that as relationships improve mental health improves too. When we feel fulfilled in our relationships we display greater resilience, less anxiety, and we better engage in what matters most.
Dr. Collibee is a professor of psychology and runs The Relationships Lab in Providence. She earned her PhD from the University of Denver and completed postdoctoral training at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. Her clinical and research expertise on interpersonal relationships has been featured in outlets such as NPR and The Times, and she has published over 30 peer-reviewed journal articles about relationships across the lifespan.
