Professional statement

Cheryl Susanne Bentley, LMFT, is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist offering online sessions throughout California, as well as in-person therapy in Northeast Los Angeles and South Pasadena. She works with individuals and couples, with a special passion for supporting women and creatives. Many of her clients seek support for issues such as self-esteem, anxiety, life transitions, trauma, and relationship challenges. She has advanced training in complex trauma and integrates this expertise into her work.

Cheryl's background is in trauma, mindfulness, and psychodynamic therapy. Over the years Cheryl has accumulated further specialized training in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), and Emotionally Focused Therapy (for couples). Her holistic approach allows her to draw from a variety of modalities, tailoring each session to meet her client’s specific needs. Her work also incorporates psycho-education to empower her clients with knowledge and tools, pulling from Buddhist psychology, Western psychological research, and neuroscience. With her guidance, you will feel more deeply connected and understanding of yourself and you’ll explore thought and behavior patterns that keep you stuck and develop strategies to move forward.

In sessions, Cheryl blends deep insight with practical, actionable tools such as grounding techniques, mindfulness, and anxiety regulation strategies that you can apply to your life right away. Her methods cultivate deeper self-awareness to support long-term personal development. while building confidence, calm, and a stronger sense of authenticity—leading to greater inner peace and healthier relationships.

Cher’s therapeutic style is warm, calm, non-judgmental, honest, and ultimately solution-oriented. When starting therapy, she focuses on understanding your personal history and therapeutic goals, all while cultivating a safe, supportive environment where you feel seen and heard.

Message to clients

Starting therapy can feel vulnerable, and I want you to know that this is a space where all parts of you are welcome. You don’t need to have it all figured out to begin. My role is to meet you exactly where you are—with compassion, curiosity, and zero judgment—and walk alongside you as you begin to explore, heal, and grow. This work is collaborative, and I’m all in. I’ll bring my full presence, training, and care to every session.

Therapy can become a place where you reconnect with yourself in ways you didn’t expect—where new insights emerge, old patterns soften, and more ease and clarity become possible. You may be coming in to manage anxiety, navigate a transition, or untangle relationship challenges. Whatever brings you here, my hope is that you leave each session feeling a little more resourced, empowered, and connected to your own inner wisdom.

I believe change is possible, even if it doesn’t feel that way right now. You don’t have to do it alone. I’m here as your ally—ready to hold space, offer guidance, and help you grow into the life you want to live.
