Professional statement

Dr. Eric Gutgarts is the Co-Founder of EQ Therapy, where he supervises therapists that specialize with couples and high-performing clients. Dr. Gutgarts teaches at NYU in their graduate mental health counseling program. His dissertation at Johns Hopkins focused on the mental health experience of intercollegiate student-athletes.

There is no one-size-fits-all approach to therapy, and there is no room for judgement in this process. Therapy is an opportunity for you to raise awareness about yourself, your relationship with others, and your view of the world. When we begin working together, you can start changing circumstances that are in your control, and find ways to focus less on factors that are out of your control. To me, therapy is a safe space to be vulnerable and intentional with what you hope to accomplish.

Message to clients

Using CBT as a framework, we will explore coping methods that can help couples and individuals improve interpersonal relationships, reduce symptoms of anxiety or depression, challenge intrusive thoughts, increase self-determination, adopt a growth mindset, and commit to structured goals. I remain flexible with therapeutic approaches to meet clients' individual needs. Let's get this process started together!
