Jen Handler is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in private practice in Manhattan’s NoMad neighborhood. She works with individuals and couples navigating relationship conflicts, self-esteem and shame, anxiety and depression, and periods of transition in work and life. Before becoming a psychotherapist, Jen practiced law, and she brings particular insight into the pressures of demanding professional environments and the challenges of career uncertainty and transition. She also has extensive experience working with college and graduate students.
Jen takes an insight-oriented approach to therapy, drawing upon her post-graduate training at the National Institute for the Psychotherapies. She uses the therapeutic relationship to better understand how clients relate to others in their lives. Some clients come for shorter-term work around a particular difficulty, while others choose to engage in deeper, longer-term therapy.
Jen also works with couples using emotionally focused therapy and relational approaches. She helps partners understand the cycles of conflict they find themselves in, develop greater empathy for one another, and learn new ways of communicating and reconnecting.
Jen welcomes clients of all identities and backgrounds and has worked with many LGBTQIA individuals and couples, including those exploring questions of gender and sexual identity. Her office is located on the edge of NoMad and is easily accessible from most subway lines and the PATH train. She also offers virtual sessions.
