Joey (Jose) Oquendo, MSW, ACSW, is an Associate Clinical Social Worker dedicated to supporting individuals on their journey toward healing, growth, and self-discovery. He works with adolescents, adults, and families navigating a wide range of mental health challenges, including anxiety, depression, trauma, cultural identity, and sexually problematic behaviors. Joey is especially passionate about supporting men, survivors of abuse, and individuals confronting the effects of societal injustice.
Joey takes a person-centered approach to therapy, tailoring each session to the unique experiences and needs of his clients. Drawing from evidence-based practices such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Trauma-Focused CBT, he creates a safe, nonjudgmental space where clients can gain insight, build coping strategies, and move toward lasting change. His therapeutic work also includes a strong foundation in Motivational Interviewing and Solution-Focused techniques, helping clients uncover their inner strengths and develop practical tools to reach their goals.
With over 20 years of experience working with diverse and underserved communities, Joey brings a deep understanding of cultural and systemic issues to his clinical work. He earned his Master of Social Work from the University of Southern California in 2020, and his commitment to social justice continues to inform his compassionate, inclusive approach to care.
Joey offers remote therapy sessions for clients throughout California and is currently accepting new clients for weekday appointments. He is proud to be part of Core Therapy’s virtual practice, where accessibility, respect, and personalized support are at the heart of every session.
