Professional statement

Dr. Justina Dillon is a licensed clinical psychologist, an accredited EMDR practitioner and supervisor, an experienced IFS therapist, and a certified DBT therapist with offices in the Herald Square neighborhood of Manhattan and she additionally offers online therapy in NY, MA, and the UK. She works primarily with adults struggling with trauma and PTSD, including complex PTSD, addiction, anxiety, depression, and dissociative disorders.

Many of Dr. Dillon’s clients come to see her for anxiety and depression related to childhood trauma, traumatic events that happened in adulthood, addiction, dissociation or relationship difficulties. Her focus in treatment is to resolve these issues and help clients live more fulfilling lives. She achieves this goal by offering a two-pronged approach: 1) maintaining focus on the day-to-day challenges and addressing them with practical solutions while 2) simultaneously working towards increasing inner peace by processing the causes of emotional pain, anxiety, and disconnection. Her therapeutic style is warm, nonjudgmental, and active.

Dr. Dillon’s approach to trauma therapy is highly integrative, drawing on Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Internal Family Systems (IFS), Prolonged Exposure (PE) for PTSD, and Skills Training in Affect and Interpersonal Regulation (STAIR). She is also well versed in other evidence-based modalities, including Psychodynamic Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Motivational Interviewing, and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). Her life-long interest in learning has resulted in a versatile therapeutic toolbox that allows her to tailor treatment to each client’s needs.

Dr. Dillon received her PhD in Clinical Psychology from Adelphi University and has been in practice for over 10 years. She is the founder of InnerWeave Psychology in Manhattan and dedicates half of her time to pro-bono supervision and training of other clinicians, both in the US and in Europe.

Message to clients

Sometimes life throws challenges our way that make us feel overwhelmed and unhappy. In therapy, we work towards helping you overcome emotional pain and reclaim agency in your life. Trauma or addiction can seep into many areas of life (mood, relationships, work, family dynamics, and our sense of self), making it difficult to see a way out, but therapy can help.

The best way to start your therapeutic journey is with an introductory phone call. It's an opportunity for me to better understand your situation and answer any questions you might have about the process, and for you to get a better sense of what treatment might look like given your particular circumstances.

During the first few sessions, we focus on identifying clear goals for treatment (e.g. improve communication in your romantic relationship, understand the causes for your difficulties, become more comfortable with asking for help, eliminate panic attacks, find better ways to cope with emotional distress, take the pain out of traumatic memories, learn to set boundaries and practice assertiveness, etc.). The beginning phase of therapy is also dedicated to building trust, getting to know each other, and learning specific tools for managing the most pressing of symptoms or problems, so that you can experience at least partial relief as soon as possible. As the sessions progress, we often re-assess the goals and collaboratively decide on the next steps in treatment. I will always share my recommendations, but your voice for what feels the most relevant is also very important.
