I'm Dr. Lauren Woolley, a psychologist in San Diego, and I work with individuals and couples who feel overwhelmed, stretched too thin, and disconnected from themselves or each other. Many of the people I see are women in midlife: thoughtful, capable, and trying to be everything to everyone while quietly running on empty. Sometimes that exhaustion is compounded by the hormonal and psychological shifts of perimenopause or menopause — mood changes, anxiety that came out of nowhere, irritability, or a growing sense of not quite recognizing yourself. Over time, all of that can show up as anxiety, panic, numbness, or a low mood.
I earned my doctorate in Counseling Psychology from Texas Woman's University. My work is informed by feminist psychology and a deep respect for the ways identity, culture, and the body shape our emotional lives. At the heart of everything I do is genuine respect for your story and your pace and a commitment to creating a space that feels safe, compassionate, and grounded in acceptance, where meaningful change can begin.
Years of Experience: 17 years
Anxiety - Coping with excessive worry, nervousness, or stress; intense discomfort in social settings (social anxiety); sudden and intense feelings of panic (panic disorder)
Perfectionism - Coping with feelings of anxiety, stress, self-criticism, and procrastination; addressing unrealistic expectations of one’s self and negatively comparing self to others
Social anxiety - Helping clients increase confidence and ability to interact with others amidst fear of being judged, worry about embarrassment, or concern about offending others
Panic attacks / panic disorder - Brief, intense periods of overwhelming fear or anxiety
Childhood trauma - Learning how traumatic events in childhood can translate into adulthood; processing through difficult memories with the goal of moving past the experience and lingering symptoms
Perimenopause/Menopause - Many women are surprised to find that anxiety, mood changes, irritability, and a loss of their usual sense of self are connected to hormonal shifts in perimenopause and menopause. I bring specific training and expertise to help women understand and navigate these changes, psychologically, emotionally, and in their relationships.
