Professional statement

Sunil Thomas, M.S., LMHC, is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor based in Ft. Lauderdale, offering remote therapy sessions for individuals across all age groups—except the little ones ages 1–5. He provides compassionate, personalized support to clients across Florida who are navigating life’s challenges and seeking meaningful change.

Sunil specializes in anger management, couples therapy, and grief and loss, and works with a wide range of concerns including anxiety, relationship issues, mood disorders, and stress. He supports individuals invested in their personal growth, teenagers exploring identity and self-esteem, and people from diverse cultural backgrounds. Sunil brings a deep respect for each person’s unique story and lived experience, and his multicultural lens allows him to meet clients where they are—with sensitivity, humility, and curiosity.

He has advanced training in treating panic disorder, generalized anxiety, OCD, depression, bipolar disorder, and dissociative disorders, and takes an informed, empathetic approach to complex mental health issues. Sunil understands that healing is not linear and believes in working at the client’s pace, honoring their resilience along the way.

His approach is integrative and client-centered, drawing from evidence-based modalities such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and the Gottman Method for couples. Depending on each client’s goals, he may incorporate breathing and grounding exercises, mindfulness skills, and emotion regulation strategies. He also offers psychoeducation to help clients better understand their experiences and feel more in control of their mental health journey.

Clients describe Sunil’s style as compassionate, collaborative, and down-to-earth. He creates a safe, nonjudgmental space where clients feel heard, supported, and empowered. He currently offers telehealth sessions only, providing flexible and accessible care throughout the state of Florida.

Message to clients

Beginning therapy is a big step. I'm here to tell you that you don’t have to have everything figured out before we begin. My hope is to offer you a space where you can feel safe, understood, and supported—whether you're working through something specific like anxiety or grief, or simply trying to reconnect with yourself and move forward in a meaningful way.

I approach therapy as a collaborative process. I’ll work with you to better understand what’s going on beneath the surface, explore tools that can help you cope and heal, and support you as you make choices that align with your values. Sometimes that might involve learning new skills, and other times it may mean simply sitting with what’s hard and making space for it. Wherever you are in your journey, we’ll take it one step at a time.

You don’t need to show up a certain way in therapy—just come as you are. Whether you're feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or simply curious about the process, I’ll meet you there with compassion, honesty, and respect.
