Professional statement

Suzette Cook (LCSW) is a psychotherapist with offices in Union Square in Manhattan and Grand Army Plaza in Brooklyn. She specializes in couples in conflict, teenagers struggling with eating disorders and their parents, and queer adults.

Suzette works with couples who love each other yet feel stuck in painful conflict, distance, or constant misfires. Conversations go sideways, tension builds fast, and both partners can begin to lose hope. By using Enotionally Focused Therapy, trauma-informed tools, and real-life communication practice, she helps partners understand the cycle they are caught in and change how they respond. They move toward greater closeness, stronger teamwork, and a relationship that feels renewed.

Suzette also works with adolescents with eating disorders. First she helps them to feel totally emotionally safe and comfortable in therapy. Then she helps the young person to stabilize their nutritional intake and unpack body image issues. Then the work focuses on helping them to understand themselves, their emotions, and how they relate to others. They develop stronger self-trust, clearer identity, and fuller expression.

Suzette also works with parents of teenagers with eating disorders who feel scared, confused, and unsure how to help. Families often feel trapped between fear, conflict, and symptoms that seem to be getting worse. By combining parent coaching, trauma-informed therapy, and coordinated care, she helps families respond more effectively and create steadier support at home. Stability grows, trust rebuilds, and healing becomes more possible.

Suzette also works with queer adults who want to better understand themselves, their emotions, and how they relate to others. Many carry confusion, disconnection, or pressure to be understood by everyone else before understanding themselves. Through warm, depth-oriented therapy, she helps clients make sense of their inner world and relate with greater confidence. They develop stronger self-trust, clearer identity, and fuller expression.
