Professional statement

Swaroopa Dundon is a psychotherapist based in Westchester, NY, who works with teens, adults, couples, and families navigating life’s many transitions. Her clients often seek support for anxiety, depression, perfectionism, and relationship challenges. Swaroopa helps them explore the underlying stories, emotions, and experiences that shape their inner world and gently guides toward healing, clarity, and self-acceptance.

Having lived in different parts of the world, Swaroopa brings a deeply culturally informed perspective to her work. As an immigrant and person of color, she understands the unique pressures of balancing multiple identities and expectations. She is especially passionate about supporting immigrant families, as well as couples navigating cross-cultural relationships or major life changes.

Swaroopa’s therapeutic style is warm, collaborative, and client-centered. She believes that therapy works best as a partnership, where clients feel safe, seen, and empowered to grow. Drawing from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), family systems, and mindfulness-based practices, she tailors her approach to meet each client’s individual needs.

A longtime yoga practitioner and teacher, Swaroopa often integrates mindfulness and breathwork into her sessions to help clients deepen their connection between mind and body. Her clients describe her as intuitive, compassionate, and gently challenging.

Swaroopa holds a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from New York University and completed a two-year advanced clinical training program in family and couples therapy at the Institute of Contemporary Psychotherapy.

Outside of her practice, she enjoys creating native plant landscapes, practicing yoga, and spending time with her family and beloved dog, Ruby.

Message to clients

In the journey toward mental well-being, you have already taken the scariest and strongest step by seeking support. Mental health is not a destination – it is a journey that can be fun, onerous, adventure-filled and ultimately rewarding. What matters most is not the occasional struggle but the persistent effort, hope and resilience you show in meeting your challenges.

Hope is a powerful force in this process. It is the light that can guide you through the darkest of times even when you feel like you are walking through sludge. Hope is the thread that connects your present struggles to a future filled with possibilities. Each small step you take toward healing—whether it's challenging a negative thought, practicing self-care, or reaching out for support—is a testament to hope.

Resilience is a key theme that often arises in therapy. I watch in awe as clients confront fears and set boundaries despite how hard it feels. I sit with clients who let themselves be vulnerable and watch them experience profound growth. Keep in mind that therapy is a collaborative effort and the more you engage the more effective it becomes. Each day you are moving closer to the life you envision for yourself—a life marked by fulfilling relationships, possibilities and peace.
