Alyssa Norris, Ph.D. is a licensed clinical psychologist in Rhode Island with expertise in a variety of settings, including perinatal/postpartum mental health, sport psychology, targeted behavioral medicine, and couples therapy. Dr. Norris specializes in Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for couples, the gold standard for couples therapy. She also specializes in treating anxiety disorders, OCD, sport psychology, and women’s health issues. Common presenting concerns among her clients include: experiencing more social anxiety since COVID; feeling a bit lost after a big role shift or loss/grief; feeling disconnected from partner, like no matter how hard you try to make things better, you simply cannot seem to communicate well with them.
Dr. Norris obtained her Ph.D. from Washington State University and completed her residency and postdoctoral fellowship at the Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University. She continues to conduct research on individual and couples mental health, having published more than 30 peer-reviewed publications and chapters.
Though she has received strong training in various treatment modalities for a broad range of presenting concerns, she has received specialty training in mindfulness-based approaches as well as EFT (e.g., Certified Facilitator of Mindsciences' Mindfulness-based Anxiety program; Completed Externship and Core Skills Training in Emotionally Focused Therapy). These approaches are designed to help you understand relationship patterns and create meaningful, fulfilling relationships with people in your life.
