Professional statement

Carmen Simon is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) located in Houston, Texas. Her practice specializes in elevating cultural diversity, with a special emphasis on working with 2SLGBTQIA+ adults, youth, and couples, as well as other sexual and gender minorities. Carmen's approach to working with clients is warm, relaxed, and flexible. She believes that the pathway to a client's success is built upon 1) a strong and organic connection between the client and the therapist, 2) a strong focus on the client's definition of their goals, and 3) a holistic approach to integrating evidence based practices with a client's own lived experience, intuition, and motivation to create change in their life.

Carmen has worked in the mental health field since 2007, and trained at Dominican University of California, where she received a MS degree in counseling psychology in 2019. Therapeutic modalities that have lent well to Carmen's therapy practice are:

*Cognitive and Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

*Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)

*Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy (EFCT)

Message to clients

Finding a therapist can be hard.....vulnerability, in general, can be hard. But, I believe, the vulnerable edge is also where emotional growth begins to flourish. Are you reading this right now because you are looking for change, affirmation, connection, and/or figuring out a way to bring emotional vibrancy back into your routine? These are all common reasons to seek out therapy. In my years of practice, I have seen many different individuals, couples, and families, all with unique personalities, backgrounds, and stories. While every case is different, I have found that a tie that binds all therapy seekers is a desire to explore the parts of life that don't get explored when we are living to survive. As a therapist, I have the immense honor of helping my clients move from "survive" to thrive by creating a safe and intimate environment to open up. Therapy can be hard, a little scary, and sometimes painful. But it is, in my opinion, worth it!
