Professional statement

Kimberly McKillop is a therapist and social worker located in Nashville, TN who works with adults 18+, including individuals and couples. She is passionate about working with clients who struggle with insecurity in their lives, whether that’s in relationships, or at work. Sometimes, these insecurities can result in codependency, anxiety, intense feelings of worthlessness, etc. and works with couples who face issues relating to infidelity and life transitions. Kimberly earned her MS degree in social work from the University of Southern California, and a BS degree in Food Science and Nutrition minoring in Psychology from Middle Tennessee State University and prelicensed in both Tennessee and Florida.

Kimberly offers a non-judgmental and non-biased approach. She believes therapy works best when her clients don’t have to perform, explain themselves endlessly, or convince someone that their feelings make sense. She works with capable, thoughtful, and deeply caring adults who are incredibly hard on themselves. Many of her clients struggle with self-blame, people-pleasing, fear of confrontation, and feel they must earn their worth. Kimberly works with the client to focus on breaking those patterns at their root by learning how to interrupt shame spirals, rebuild self-trust, and speaking up without guilt.

Kimberly’s therapeutic style is supportive but direct and helps clients understand why these patterns developed and how to respond differently in real-life situations. Kimberly draws from multiple therapeutic approaches, including ACT, CBT, inner child, somatic, nutrition, and more. Kimberly integrates faith and values when relevant, always at the client’s pace. Many of her clients come in carrying spiritual guilt or pressure to “do better.” If you’re tired of shrinking, over-apologizing, or feeling like everything is your responsibility, therapy can help you come back to yourself.

Message to clients

You don’t need more advice — you need a place where you can stop blaming yourself.

I work with women who are thoughtful, capable, and caring, but quietly exhausted from carrying too much. Many of my clients struggle with constant self-criticism, people-pleasing, fear of confrontation, and the feeling that they have to earn their worth. They often replay conversations, apologize when it isn’t their fault, and wonder why speaking up feels so hard — even when they know they deserve more.

My approach focuses on helping you rebuild self-trust, interrupt shame cycles, and develop confidence that doesn’t require becoming hardened or detached. Together, we work on breaking patterns of self-blame, learning how to tolerate discomfort without turning against yourself, and practicing honest self-advocacy — in relationships, at work, and within yourself.

I believe real change happens when clients begin to like themselves again, not because life suddenly becomes perfect, but because they stop shrinking in it. Therapy with me is supportive, direct, and focused on meaningful insight paired with real-world change.

If you’re tired of feeling like everything is your responsibility — and ready to stop disappearing in your own life — you don’t have to do that work alone. I'm here and ready to help you on your path to healing! Reach out to me today!
