Kira Keenan (she/her) is a clinical social worker with a background in sex positive sex education. She works w a wide range of adult patients on topics ranging from mental health work like depression, anxiety, and managing OCD - to more specialized sexuality topics like sex therapy for individuals and relationships, helping people open their relationships, responding to pelvic pain, desire difficulties, issues with arousal or orgasm, and supporting people as they adapt to physical limitations that interrupt their access to pleasure.
Her therapeutic approach integrates her experiences in the medical education and pleasure fields. Kira is able to discuss meaningfully a wide range of sexuality topics w comfort and professionalism. Her approach is values-driven, ACT-based, and supports people in understanding their authentic self, within a therapeutic space where they feel unconditional positive regard. Kira holds a dialectic approach that utilized the tools and skills from the DBT model.
Kira started her career as a sex positive sex educator. She worked in a feminist-run sex shop where she regularly had 30min to 2-hour long conversations with people about their intimate lives, in explicit and educational ways. From here she decided to train in sex education and clinical social work. Kira earned her Masters in Education w a focus in Human Sexuality, while also earning her MSW in 2012. Since then she has served as the Clinical Director at The Center for Sexual Pleasure and Health, and as the manager for the Adult Sexuality and Gender Behavioral Health Clinic at Brown Health.
Kira is available for in-person and telehealth sessions. She is licensed in RI and CT. She is working outside of the insurance model - and invites people to be in contact about her private pay model.

Fees & Access
I offer a five-tier sliding scale to support access across income levels. A limited number of lower-cost and pro bono spots are available but often have longer wait times. Full-fee sessions help make this model possible.
I used to offer care through insurance as part of my commitment to accessibility. Over time, I’ve come to see insurance systems as gatekeepers to care. I’m choosing to divest from that model and instead center care in participation, and shared responsibility.
I also supervise advanced clinical trainees who may offer reduced-fee sessions under my close supervision. I will announce when this option is available.
"Kira is a well informed, patient, kind and dedicated therapist. She cares deeply for the well being of her clients. Kira is also a great resource for other therapists. I have frequently consulted with her and have come away enlightened and informed. I would highly recommend her as a therapist."
