Professional statement

Partner 1: “I reach for you, but it feels like you’re already gone.” I’m left wondering if I matter to you at all.” Partner 2: “When you come close, I feel the pressure to be perfect, so I pull back to protect us both.” These unspoken messages leave couples lonely and stuck. I help break this anxious–avoidant cycle so partners feel safe, seen, and deeply connected again.

“I don’t understand why I want closeness so badly, yet feel disappointed when I have it. Why do I feel lonelier than others, even when I’m not alone?” Or: “I care deeply, but people say I’m distant or hard to read. When emotions get intense, I shut down—not because I don’t feel, but because it feels like too much.”

These quiet tensions live beneath awareness for many people. Longing and self-protection pull in opposite directions. Needs feel confusing, emotions feel overwhelming or unsafe, and core beliefs quietly form—I’m too much, I’m not enough, connection costs me something.

I help people loosen these patterns, reconcile the Self with more truthful and adaptive beliefs, and move toward self-acceptance and interdependence—where connection no longer threatens safety, but deepens it.

After nine years serving in the U.S. Coast Guard, I realized my deepest fulfillment came not from fixing electronics, but from walking with people. Leaving the military was not a departure from service—it was a continuation of it. I pursued social work and theological training to support people in their most important relationships.

My practice centers on helping couples rebuild what feels broken. Using Emotionally Focused Therapy, I walk with partners past conflict and silence to the deeper longings — Do you love me? Am I enough? Will you stay? I believe marriage is a covenant worth fighting for, bringing advanced clinical training and a faith-grounded perspective to that fight.

Message to clients

I know reaching out for help takes courage — especially when your relationship is hurting. After one session, the fog starts to lift. You'll see where you're stuck and what it takes to move forward. I offer accountability, not rejection. My approach is structured and compassionate: I won't let you flounder, but I also won't push you where you're not ready to go. If you're looking for a therapist who takes marriage seriously, who brings clinical precision and genuine faith to the work, I'd welcome a conversation.

Many prospective clients seek me out because they value integrating a Christian worldview into therapy. I approach this with grace, acceptance, and honesty — you are welcome to show up as you are, without masks or pressure to be perfect. My Christian faith supports unconditional positive regard and meeting clients where they are.

I continue to learn by pursuing formal, post-graduate training in evidence-based models and by having my work reviewed. I have completed the EFCT Externship recognized by ICEEFT and EMDR training recognized by EMDRIA. Nationally, only about 1–2% of therapists complete EFCT externship training and roughly 3% are EMDR-trained. I am currently working toward certification in both models — a level reached by only about 0.2% of therapists in EFT and 0.6% in EMDR. Certification requires submitting recordings of my actual sessions for evaluation and feedback. I value this process because it keeps my work accountable and centered on effective care.
